Synopsis: Sikander is the journey of a boy, Sikander (Cheema) who lands up in Chandigarh to join a political party and support his friends. But soon he finds himself in the middle of all things where he has to contest the President’s election. During their tenure, Sikander and his friends face variousproblems and find Beant (Gul Panag), Sikander’s ex-beau competing against them in the next elections due to some forced circumstances. The film talks about student politics, usage of drugs and relationships at colleges.
The movie Sikander has proved that apart from comedy dramas and inspirational insights Punjabi Cinema has lot more to delight its audience. The vigorous concept of the movie Sikander is based on student politics.
Featuring Nishwan Bhullar, Kartar Cheema, Yaad Grewal, Gul Panag and Raj Singh Jhinger, the movie Sikander talks over the emerging issues related to student politics and covers all the interrelated burdens like eve-teasing, alcohol addiction, etc.
Muscly performance of starts made the movie watchable. Kartar Cheema, a complete performer with good looks has played his role well and the aggressive face of Yaad Grewal (villain) has added a tang in the movie. Gul Panag has given an applaudable debut performance. Raj Jhinger has also given an impactful performance.
The story might be solid on papers but on cinemas it had a bland effect. The director Jitender Mauhar has tried to take Punjabi Cinema to the next step through a meaningful story. Unfortunately, he could not tell the masses what all he comprehended. Songs of the movie are quite palatable but dialogues could have been better.
On the other hand, the sudden end of the story affected the impact of the movie among the audience. No doubt, the central story of the movie stimulates the interest among viewers and definitely it is a cup of tea for those who are seeking a different taste in Punjabi Cinema.
